The study, conducted on immune system cells, found that extracts from the polyphenol-rich lowbush blueberry stopped bacterium related to gum disease from developing. These same extracts also reduced the inflammation response of cells already infected with gum disease.

Preventing Gum Disease
The best ways to prevent gum disease remain daily brushing and flossing. Brushing should be done with a soft bristled toothbrush after every meal and flossing should be completed both morning and night for optimal effects.
