Invisalign Health Benefits

[link id=’81’ text=’Invisalign’] is primarily a cosmetic procedure. It hasn’t really been evaluated for its effectiveness in providing health benefits, so although we know it can give you a straighter, more attractive smile without metal braces, we can’t scientifically report that it has any health benefits.

However, it does seem that there are a number of health benefits that go along with Invisalign treatment.

Straighter teeth are easier to keep clean. When you have straight teeth, it’s easier to brush them and remove all the plaque. It’s also easier to floss your teeth effectively. And you’re less likely to get food stuck in straight teeth.

As a result of cleaner teeth, you are less likely to suffer periodontal disease, which degrades the gum tissue around your teeth. Periodontal disease is not only the leading cause of tooth loss, it can also lead to systemic problems, as bacteria use damaged gum tissues as a springboard to your blood vessels. As your body fights this systemic infection, you may suffer hardened arteries and an increased risk of coronary artery disease, stroke, diabetes complications, and respiratory disease, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.

In addition, malocclusion (bad bite) can increase the wear and stress on your teeth. Straightening your teeth with Invisalign can help them last longer and reduce your risk of a fractured tooth that may require emergency intervention.

And in the process of giving you straighter teeth, Invisalign has many benefits over braces. When people get braces, it’s not unusual for them to experience an increase in periodontal disease and tooth decay because it’s harder to clean around braces. Because Invisalign is removable, you never have to work about cleaning your teeth.

Other times, people avoid healthy foods because they do not want the trouble of cleaning them out of braces. Avoiding healthy, nutritious foods for a year in favor of softer, processed foods is not good for your body.  Invisalign is completely removable so you can continue to eat all the same nutritious foods.
