What are Some common Cosmetic Dental Procedures?

Burke, Fairfax and Fairfax Station, VA

Sometimes our smile needs a little help. Perhaps we weren’t born with a mouth that’s big enough to hold all of our eventual permanent teeth. Maybe we inherited a “gummy” smile from our mom or dad. Our teeth can also be cracked, chipped, broken or missing, possibly due to an injury. And age — along with certain foods and beverages we enjoy — can stain our teeth. This is when we’re thankful that we live in a world with cosmetic dentists like Northern Virginia’s Dr. Pamela Marzban.

Cosmetic dentistry can address a wide array of issues with your teeth and smile. And while the priority of any cosmetic dentist is dental aesthetics — giving you a dazzling smile — the treatments we offer in our Burke cosmetic dentist office do more than just address your smile’s aesthetics. They can also improve your overall oral health. Today, Dr. Marzban is sharing a list of the most common dental procedures we perform in our office.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is our most requested cosmetic treatment. Teeth can turn yellow, dark or dingy over time, which adds age to our faces and can make us feel self-conscious about our smiles. Our Fairfax cosmetic dentist can drastically — and quickly — improve the whiteness and brightness of your teeth. Unlike over-the-counter teeth whitening strips or kits, Dr. Marzban offers two highly effective bleaching treatments: In-office, advanced teeth whitening with Boost and Opalescence take-home whitening. You can remove years of stains from your teeth in as little as a lunch break, or you can whiten your teeth from the comfort of your own home. And sometimes, we may recommend a combination of both. Our powerful whitening agents give you consistent, impressive and stunning results without sensitivity or irritation to your teeth and gums like store-bought whitening strips are notorious for doing.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin, durable “shells” that adhere to the front surfaces of teeth to cover minor imperfections such as stains, cracks and chips. Veneers can also be used to mask gaps and minor crookedness in teeth. Veneers can restore the appearance of one or multiple teeth at once. Some people choose to cover each of their visible teeth with veneers, creating a perfectly seamless smile.

Dental bonding

Similar to veneers, dental bonding restores damaged, discolored and irregularly shaped or sized teeth. During this procedure, Dr. Marzban uses a durable composite resin, painting it on the affected tooth in a color to match neighboring teeth. She then shapes and cures the resin. Dental bonding is a painless procedure with consistently impressive results, and it only takes one visit to our office!

Invisalign

Invisalign is our preferred orthodontic treatment for straightening misaligned teeth. Using digital scans and X-rays to make a 3D image of your mouth, Dr. Marzban makes a series of custom-fitted aligner trays that gently shift teeth into their proper position in usually half the time it takes traditional metal braces.

Dental implants

If you are missing a tooth or need one extracted, replacing it is the best, most beneficial oral health decision you can make. Dental implants involve a minor surgical procedure to insert a small metal post into the jawbone. When a person is missing a tooth, the bone that once held the tooth isn’t being used anymore so the body begins to reabsorb it. In a jawbone, in particular, this bone loss puts other teeth at risk of falling out. Implants immediately begin to stimulate the jawbone, preventing further bone or tooth loss. Dental implants look incredibly natural, and since the jawbone fuses to the implant, the restoration is so durable that you’re still able to enjoy all your favorite foods — even those you wouldn’t be able to eat with dentures. Implants, themselves, will last forever. With good oral hygiene, a crown — the part of the restoration that is visible to you and others — may not need to be replaced for 30 or more years.
