What is a Dental Bridge?

What is a Dental Bridge?

A [link id=’54’ text=’dental bridge’] is an oral appliance that bridges a gap between one or more missing teeth. Dental bridges are attached to teeth adjacent to the space left by a missing tooth, and used to hold an artificial tooth into place. This makes the hold for your false tooth much more secure than tooth replacement options such as dentures.

Types of Dental Bridges

Fairfax cosmetic dentist, Dr. Pamela Marzban, offers our patients three different kinds of dental bridges:

  • Traditional bridge – These bridges are anchored to dental crowns placed over adjacent teeth on both sides of the missing tooth or teeth.
  • Cantilever bridge – These bridges are used when only one tooth is available for anchoring the bridge next to the space left by missing teeth
  • Maryland bond bridge – These bridges are anchored with a set of plastic teeth and gums

Depending on the unique needs of your smile, Dr. Marzban can help you determine what type of bridge will be best suited for you.
